So far so good on my self-imposed 500 words a day minimum writing challenge. 4 consecutive days so far. Today I did 904. It's nice to be consistent after so much wasted time in the past. There's a little pressure, but it's not overwhelming. I think the 500 words minimum is just the right amount.. it usually takes no more than an hour's writing to achieve, and once done if the rest of the day gets frittered away I don't feel so bad about myself. They key is that there is no maximum: if I want to write more I will, if not, then I just give up for the rest of the day. If I get back to working a real-life job soon, this should fit neatly into any schedule, no matter how severe. 45 minutes a day to get 500 words.
Also I want to write more blog posts in 2012 than in the two previous. We shall see, but those posts won't count towards by daily word count minimum. That's strictly for ongoing works of fiction.
2012 is my year to get a novel and book of short stories ready for publication. I hope. We shall see.
